About the Euroguidance Centre Iceland

The Euroguidance Centre in Iceland is one of the instruments available in the field of European lifelong education, training and qualifications. It supports transnational mobility and the European dimension in education and training through the provision of information on education and training opportunities in EU/EEA Member States and on relevant actors responsible for portability of qualifications.
 

Aims

The Euroguidance Centre works in co-operation with other such centres, which form a network of National Resource Centres for Guidance in Europe. The network aims to promote:

  • the European dimension in education and training
  • mobility in education and training by providing quality information on education and training opportunities and work experience placements in the various Member States of the EU/EEA 
  • access to information on issues common to the education and training systems of the EU/EEA Member States 
  • mutual awareness and co-operation between guidance services in the different EU/EEA Members States in terms of working methods and dissemination of innovative practices
  • the development of the European dimension in the national systems of educational and vocational guidance.
     

General objectives

The NRCG general objectives are as follows:

  • provide access to quality information to relevant target groups on: 
    • education and training opportunities 
    • pathways to occupations and careers 
    • the legal framework for mobility 
    • living conditions and 
    • community Initiatives and Programmes in the EU/EEA Member States 
  • support the exchange of quality information on: 
    • education and training systems in the EU/EEA Member States
    • vocational and educational guidance systems in the EU/EEA Member States 
    • relevant actors responsible for portability of qualifications. 
  • act as intercultural agent in supporting different actors in education and training in EU/EEA Member States (e.g. explaining the educational and training systems of one’s own Member State to other Member States and EEA)
  • support the development of the European dimension in the national systems of educational and vocational guidance
     

Specific objectives

In accordance with what is mentioned above, the following specific objectives are characteristic of the day to day activities of the Icelandic Resource Centre:

  • providing guidance counsellors in Iceland with information about the vocational education and training system in Iceland as well as in other member states of the European Union 
  • providing guidance counsellors and staff in other European Resource Centres with information on the vocational education and vocational training system in Iceland 
  • collecting, producing and disseminating quality information about education and training opportunities to the target group in EU/EEA countries 
  • establishing and developing a working national and European network with the target group of the Resource Centre 
  • introducing, enhancing and developing the use of information technology in guidance and acknowledging the skills needed for counsellors and students in the information society 
  • participating in appropriate information events and training seminars at national and transnational level
  • proactively promoting participation in the Leonardo da Vinci programme 
  • participating in projects with other Resource Centres and working towards strong and efficient networking.
